What is Hypnotherapy and Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a pleasant and natural daydream like state. The client becomes so relaxed that positive suggestions made to them are easily accepted by the subconscious part of their mind. Suggestion therapy is very powerful.

We all pass through the hypnotic state several times a day, for example when waking up or drifting off to sleep. Have you ever driven a familiar route, only to arrive at your destination and had no memory of passing certain places along the way? Or perhaps you have been so engrossed in a book or television program that you haven't heard someone speak to you.

These are all good examples of how our minds can enter a light trance frequently throughout the day. The important thing to understand about hypnosis and the hypnotic state, is that it's a perfectly natural phenomena and something we are all capable of achieving. 

The job of the therapist is to lead the client into this relaxed condition, in order to deliver positive suggestions providing a beneficial response to problems and conditions. 

Dispelling the myths 

It is a common misconception that clients go to sleep, become unaware and have no control of what is going on around them. This is not so. Hypnosis heightens awareness and is a pleasant relaxing experience. 

You could never be made to do anything you would not normally do when in a fully conscious state. You are in control the whole of the time and do not lose any ability to make decisions. Hypnotherapy should not be confused with stage hypnosis, the two are quite different. 

What Happens in a Therapy Session? 

Treatment RoomDuring the first session we would discuss the problems you are encountering, along with goals you wish to achieve. I would explain hypnotherapy in more depth, along with respects to how it can help. Furthermore I would answer any questions that you may have. 

Once we have established all of these things and you are happy to continue, the therapy can begin. As a therapist i would lead you into a comfortable relaxed condition, where your mind can drift into a pleasant state. This is so that positive suggestions can be made to bring about the changes you wish to achieve. 

The first session would take approximately one and a half hours. You would leave with a reinforcement therapy CD or mp3, to listen to at your leisure. Any subsequent sessions would be approximately an hour long.
